spellforce: conquest of eo
Conjuring a magical strategy
THE mission
For over two decades, the SpellForce series has combined RPG and strategy, blending beautiful fantasy designs with satisfying tactical combat. For its latest entry, I was tasked with creating a standout moment that would get the game in front of fantasy gaming and strategy fans, while conveying the 4X’s epic scale.

THE CAmpaign
The decision was made to focus in on single, high impact moments to maximise cut-through. With this strategy in mind, I searched for creators whose audience had a strong intersection between fantasy fandom and core gaming tastes with a strategy slant. As a tertiary audience, I included physical tabletop games, cognizant that this would allow for an authentic bridge to a “real world” execution and reach an audience that still has its roots firmly in gaming.
Nerdforge seemed to be a natural fit - their high energy presence and impressive builds have gone viral many times, providing huge visibility moments even for more niche titles. Working with Arena Media UK, contact was established with the Nerdforge team, and production was underway.
With room left in the plan for a smaller video, the team at Arena found Tabletop Time, a channel who would allow us to capture the portion of our audience most dedicated to the grand battles and meticulous detail of tabletop gaming. Covering SpellForce’s targeting buckets as comprehensively as possible across these content pieces, and with clear, unintrusive links back to the game in place, the stage was set for both videos to succeed.
THE RESULTS
In launch week, the Nerdforge video reached no.8 on YouTube Gaming’s trending videos, driving over 800K organic views. To date, the video sits at over 2,000,000 views and continues to grow, providing evergreen visibility for the game against Nerdforge’s premium brand.
As a smaller supporting booking aimed at a more core tabletop audience, the Tabletop Time video performed excellently in comparison to projections, with over 55,000 views to date.
With THQ Nordic’s reputation for premium physical editions, the over 6ft tall tower naturally had to make its way to Vienna HQ, standing proud in the window of the merch store to catch the interest of passers-by.
